ALBANY, NY ( June 26, 2012) – The Recovery Sports Grill on Wolf Road will partner with the University at Albany women’s basketball program to host a Dining to Donate event on Thursday, June 28 in honor of the team’s outstanding season. From 5 to 9 p.m. 15-percent of each participating guests’ bill will be donated to the team’s new locker room fund.
Head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson will join local sports guru Rodger Wyland for a special in-store interview highlighting the team’s accomplishments, which culminated with their first ever America East Championship. “Coach Abe” also helped guide the 2011-2012 team to their first 20-win season and first NCAA tournament appearance since joining the Division I ranks, where they lost in a hard fought opening round game against defending champs, Texas A&M.
The interview will be part of Wyland’s weekly Barstool Banter series hosted by the Recovery Sports Grill. Wyland—best known as the host of Big Board Radio Sports Talk on Fox Sports 980 AM, and sports anchor and director for NewsChannel 13—hosts live radio-styled conversations at each of the five Capital Region Recovery Sports Grill locations.
With nearly three decades of local sports coverage to his name, Wyland now gives sports fans the chance to offer their own input during the show’s “rant” segment. Much like a call-in segment on a radio show, diners at the restaurant are asked to rant on a sports topic of their choice. The rants are voted on at the end of the night, with the top “ranter” winning a prize.
The independently-owned Recovery Sports Grill has helped raise thousands of dollars for countless nonprofit organizations through their Dining to Donate dinners. The Albany-based chain currently operates eight family-oriented sports-themed restaurants—including locations in Albany, Colonie, Troy, Rotterdam, and Amsterdam—with more under development.
