The staff members of Hilton Garden Inn properties in New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire and Maine celebrated the third annual Hilton Worldwide Global Week of Service over the past few days with several projects to benefit the Unity House in Troy. Over 30 volunteers participated locally at the Unity House, the Unity House’s community meals and resource center, and the organization’s community thrift store as part of this worldwide initiative. This project was initially submitted to the Hilton Director of Brand Performance Support by the HGI Troy team earlier this year along with countless others throughout the region to be considered as the official Hilton Garden Inn North Atlantic Region’s Global Week of Service Event. It is a great honor for the HGI Troy submission to have been chosen as this year’s official event.
On Monday, October 20th, HGI Troy’s own Dan Dolan, Christina Ryzner, and Michelle Skomsky kicked off this volunteer week by spending some time with the Commission on Economic Opportunity at the Troy Family Resource Center. They worked with six different classrooms making Halloween arts and crafts.
The main event then took place on Tuesday with 18 employees from 5 regional Hilton Garden Inn properties participating along with Marc Rothstein, Director of Brand Project Management, and Don Willingham, VP of Brand Performance Support & Sales.
The group was broken down into 3 different teams. One group painted and cleaned up the original Unity House on 8th Street in Troy. The paint was provided by Pfeil Hardware. This building is used for the Unity House’s annual holiday store where they partner with the Commission on Economic Opportunity to provide families in need with the opportunity to shop for holiday gifts for their loved ones.
The second group of volunteers distributed and served a delicious roast pork lunch to Bethany at Unity House at their new location on 6th Avenue. The lunch was made by the HGI Troy Food & Beverage Team using using food donated by US Foods. The last group worked in ReStyle, Unity House’s community thrift store. Volunteers helped build storage and bins to help organize the product within the store.
Community service is a major aspect of the Hilton Worldwide culture and the Hilton Garden Inn Troy team is honored to have been part of this extraordinary opportunity to help others.
